All… did you hear the news!?
MASCARA MONDAYS are a THING now at JUSTGLOWFIREFLY!!! I know. Stop everything. It’s grand!
I’m pretty excited about Mascara Mondays. What is it?! Let me tell ya!
Mascara Mondays or #mascaramondaysjgf are days to trial a new mascara. Every Monday I will be trialing a new mascara that I’ve been “eyeing” (hehe) or ones that you all have recommended that I try. I’m always on the lookout for a great mascara and I hope this will be helpful for you as well as me!
Today was the first Monday. Check out my instastories on Instagram (@justglowfirefly) for the play-by-play but I’ll also keep you updated here.
What did I try today?
The highly rated and reviewed Smashbox SuperFan Mascara.
This mascara is highly rated on the website, receiving 4.75 stars on www.smashbox.com. It is Black and $19. Smashbox is a cruelty free brand and this product is free from parabens, phthalates, oil, fragrance, and silicone. It is also vegan.
What it is supposed to do
Smashbox.com claims that this is lengthening with “12-hour length, lift, and volume without any heaviness or clumping.” (www.smashbox.com)
I was super nervous initially about the wand. These types of wands scare me. Let’s just say I’ve had a bad experience of one poking me in the eyeball (which was NOT fun). This one, however, wasn’t bad at all and it was flexible and soft enough to get to the root, but not irritate my eyes.
Application and Formula
I applied the mascara this morning to wear during the day. I started by curling my lashes… it’s a must. After the curling, I began applying on each eye. I applied two coats.
It applied easily. No clumping or flaking was noticed. It dried fast and didn’t get everywhere. The formula wasn’t too thin or thick (dried out type). For me, mascaras seem to get better with time as you use them, so this is a pretty good consistency.
Real Life Wear
This wore well throughout the day. It didn’t run or give me raccoon eyes. I also didn’t see a ton of flaking and it stayed on.
It didn’t irritate or itch my eyes either. I loved that it didn’t have fragrance.
This wasn’t the easiest of mascaras to remove, but it also wasn’t the hardest. I used my Jordan Samuel Skin The Aftershow Treatment Balm and it came off at first cleanse. I, of course, went behind with a second cleanse, but it was removed after the first.
If I were to give this a star rating, I would agree with the reviewers on Smashbox.com. I would definitely give it a 4.75 star rating.
Why didn’t I give it 5 stars? Ah, probably a mixture of the wand and formula. Don’t get me wrong, I think that it is good, I just think there maybe something out there that may build a little better. (I’m a super picky mascara lover!)
4.75 stars is an excellent rating and I recommend that you try!
