Happy New Year and My 2017 Skincare Favorites

Happy New Year!

I am so excited for 2018.  I don’t know why the idea of starting fresh is so exciting, specifically when beginning a new year, but it feels as though the opportunities are endless!

2017 was an amazing year for my family and me.  On January 1 of 2017, we took a leap of faith and packed up our things and moved to the coast of the Carolinas.  My husband and I have two children and have always wanted to move to the beach, so we did it.

Looking back now, it was the most liberating and scariest decision ever.  I never had moved anywhere before (except college and back).  We love our new home, community, and life.  It was the best decision we have made as a family.

I started a blog and Instagram account in October of 2017.  I love every minute of this at Just Glow Firefly.  It’s a fun outlet for me to talk about some of my favorite things, and I know I am not alone when it comes to my beauty, makeup, and skincare obsessions!  I have truly enjoyed every person I have met and cannot wait to share more with you!

That actually brings me to what we are going to discuss today!  My skincare favorites of 2017!

I tried to only pick one per category.  This was so hard!  There are so many good ones.  Let’s get started.

Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel
Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel

Cleanser: Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel

Oh my goodness, this should not come as any surprise if you have been reading my blog from its inception.  This gentle cleanser removes all the makeup, dirt, and grime you can imagine.  It’s fantastic as a second cleanse too.  I love the smell.  It is so soft and nice.

Mahalo Skin Care The Bean
Mahalo Skin Care The Bean

Mask: Mahalo The Bean Mask

This mask is so nice.  It has cacao, vanilla, and coffee to detox, purify, and tone the skin.  It’s definitely a treat.  My skin feels soft, plump, and revitalized after use.  I would recommend if you are looking for a lux mask.

C-Firma Day Serum by Drunk Elephant

Serum: C-Firma Day Serum by Drunk Elephant

Y’all… this serum is amazing.  Actually, the brand is fantastic.  I cannot rant and rave enough about Drunk Elephant.  I love their company standards in utilizing high-quality ingredients.  I also love that it WORKS!  This is one of the most (if not THE MOST) effective brightening serums that I have tried.  I love it.

Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil
Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil

Oil: Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil

I like oils, but I am still warming up to loving them.  They are usually a hit or miss for me.  I absolutely love this oil from Biossance.  I hate the way that some oils would leave a film on my face or not sink in.  I felt like I would have to wait forever to apply something else on top.  Never fear – this oil does none of that!  It sinks in, provides hydration, evens skin tone, and brightens to give that natural glow.

Kate Somerville ExfoliKate
Kate Somerville ExfoliKate

Exfoliator: Kate Somerville ExfoliKate

This stuff works.  It is a physical and chemical exfoliator and it is strong.  Be careful to only use as recommended.  It’s amazing.  You will have the smoothest skin after this treatment.

Alpha H Liquid Gold with Glycolic Acid
Alpha H Liquid Gold with Glycolic Acid

Acid: Alpha H Liquid Gold with Glycolic Acid

Need new skin by the AM?  Use this.  No joke.  I use this a couple times a week to refresh and help with some pigmentation that I have.  Can you tell that is a skin concern of mine after reading my favorites so far?  The glycolic acid is not too strong, but it gets the job done.

m-61 PowerSpot Blemish Lotion
m-61 PowerSpot Blemish Lotion

Blemish Treatment: m-61 PowerSpot Blemish Lotion

I usually don’t get a ton of blemishes, but when I do get a spot, its usually a massive, in your face, hey, look at me, type spot.  I try to not mess with it, but I’m human.  I use this treatment overnight and I can definitely say that it shortens the length of time it shows.  It dries and clears it up.  Good ingredients and it works, A+!

Dr. Jart Ceramidin Cream
Dr. Jart Ceramidin Cream

Face Cream: Dr. Jart Ceramidin Cream

I don’t think I have ever been so obsessed with a face cream before this one.  It’s well-loved (can you tell?) and has lasted me a long time so far. It sinks in, provides great hydration for my dry, dehydrated skin, and leaves your skin feeling smooth and ready for makeup.  It’s excellent.

Jordan Samuel Hydrate Facial Serum

Hydrating Facial Serum: Jordan Samuel Hydrate Facial Serum

OK, you caught me… I snuck one more serum in here.  I couldn’t leave this one out.  Jordan Samuel’s skincare is fantastic.  I have really enjoyed many of his products and I cannot wait to try more.  I am running low on this one and will need to repurchase soon.  Full of hyaluronic acid and other great ingredients, this one deserves a mention.

Tula Multi-Spectrum Eye Renewal Serum
Tula Multi-Spectrum Eye Renewal Serum

Eye Cream: Tula Multi-Spectrum Eye Renewal Serum

As I get older, I find that eye cream is becoming more and more important.  This one is very nice.  I don’t have massive bags or dark circles, so I don’t need anything super strong.  I do, however, want to hydrate and ensure that the skin stays as tight as possible,

Oribe Balmessence Lip Treatment
Oribe Balmessence Lip Treatment

Lip Balm: Oribe Balmessence Lip Treatment

This is a newer one for me, but I am already loving it so much, I have to insert this one in here.  This lip balm is amazing.  I love the consistency.  It looks good over lipstick, under lipstick… hydrates, isn’t messy… the whole nine yards.  It is excellent.

These were some of my favorite skincare products for 2017.  I cannot wait to see what comes in 2018.

Wishing you all the bright fireflies in 2018! Cheers!

Jennifer
