Let’s start out by saying… I used to despise my hair. I look at my five year old daughter who has my hair and she brushes it to get it “straight.” I used to be exactly like her. I always wanted straight hair like the other girls in my grade.
It wasn’t until later that I really started embracing my curls and learning how to control them. I found that making it straight wasn’t easier. It was actually harder and took a lot more time. I found what worked for me to make them look the way I wanted: soft, big (but not frizzy), and defined.
I feel like I’ve tried it all: mousse, gels, creams, sticky wax, sprays, etc. Gels are too hard, the creams are sometimes too soft (don’t have enough hold), and I’ve found that some sprays (particularly one) is “just right!”
Here are my top 3 products I’ve been loving for my natural curls:
This is my secret. Honestly, sometimes I will only use this. My hair is so dry and it craves hydration. This leave in conditioner hydrates while providing a slight hold too. Innersense has great products that work and smell incredible. They have great ingredients too.
My hair with only the leave in conditioner. I’m telling you, it sounds crazy (I never thought of it before), but it works!
This spray is perfect. The Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray by Oribe provides texture, hold, and shine all at the same time. The shine isn’t too much though, as I can use it multiple times without feeling like my hair needs to be washed again. It gives a healthy glow and makes my hair glisten without the weight.
I’ve been trying to not wash my hair as much. When I’m on day 3 or so, I use the Ouai Wave Spray to give it a little more boost and hold. I find that this will get me through one more day before the curls are just a frizzy mess.
I am still trying to find the perfect dry shampoo. Most of the dry shampoos don’t really work well or leave my hair white, which isn’t really what I am going for. I just bought the IGK Friends With Benefits Texture and Shine Kit from Sephora, so I am so excited to try IGK. I tested some of their products in the store and they were very nice.
I’m still learning and trying different things. This is what is working for me right now and I really have embraced myself with curls. It’s a part of who I am and I love it.
Wishing you all the bright fireflies,
