Stila: A Foundation Review

The feeling that I have when my skin looks absolutely flawless is indescribable. That, of course, would not be right now as my face is fighting some hormonal breakouts (insert eye roll here).

Skincare is the ultimate necessity for creating a flawless base, but finding the right foundation and color is also very important.

Foundations are fun to try, but I rarely find one that is a “Holy Grail” for me.  I’m really trying to find more coverage for the Fall and Winter months and something that will last.  I have normal to dry skin (dryer in the Winter), so I usually have a hard time finding that perfect foundation.

I’ve been trying out the Stila Stay All Day Foundation and Concealer for a couple of weeks now.  I tried a sample from a Sephora purchase and absolutely loved the foundation at first try, so I bought a full-size instantly.  It claims to be matte, but at first use, it was really hydrating and provided a great base.

After a few weeks of use, I have developed pros and cons for this foundation.

Pros:

  • Awesome packaging
  • Concealer and foundation in one (same shade for fuller coverage)
  • Builds easily
  • Good color match
  • Good coverage/hides all my discoloration

Cons:

  • Cakes up on me after a few hours of use (most likely related to my dry skin, even after applying a very moisturized base)
  • More difficult to work with when using a brush

I think it is more suited for those who have oily/combo skin types because it does say it is supposed to be matte.  It’s not the perfect one for me as I have to check-in to see how it looks throughout the day.  I wish it didn’t cake up on me after a couple hours because I secretly want a matte foundation to work for me.  I do not think the odds are in my favor.

Let me know if you have any suggestions or what has worked for you.  I’m still looking…

Wishing you all the bright fireflies,

Jennifer
